Michael Kanyon is a well-respected editorial celebrity hair stylist that has been passionate about hair ever since his father gave him his first buzzer. Combined with a passion for geometry Michael later picked up a pair of scissors at the age of 15 and started doing hair cuts on his friends in the neighborhood. Michael at a young age had an innate nature to look at someone and geometrically sculpt a haircut specifically suited for that individual making his talents highly recognized.
Michael studied at the Vidal Sassoon Academy, Rusk, Jingles, and apprenticed directly under John Sahag. Michael is best known for his dry hair cutting method, taught to him by John Sahag. This select method is only known by a small number of dry haircutting specialists throughout the world. Combining the wide variety of knowledge and experience he has attained over the years, Michael Kanyon is both a trendsetter and a highly sought-after artist.
One of the youngest editorial hairstylist in the business for many years, at 22- years-old, Michael’s first paying job was unlike any other. Under the direction of Victor Skrebneski in New York City, he was asked to change the model’s hairstyle nine times. Upon the ninth request, he walked out and the entire crew began to clap. It was Skrebneski’s way of testing him under pressure and he passed surrounded by greats Gilles Bensimon , Patrick Demarchelier, Walter Chin, Franchesco Scavullo, Russell James and more.
Michael has worked around the world working directly out of New York, Miami, Stockholm, and Los Angeles. Since 2008 Michael has been living in LA working as the Key Hair Stylist on The CW’s America’s Next Top Model, while working with celebrity clients as well.
Michael has worked with magazines including Vogue, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and Italian Vogue. Some of his advertising campaigns consist of Ray Ban, Samsonite, and Vanderbilt Jeans. Michael has also worked with many celebrities including Ashley Judd, Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum, One Republic, and Alicia Keys.
